Transmed offloads newcastlemax pair

The first newcastlemax sales of the month are ticking in with brokers reporting Charalambos Mylonas-led Transmed has privately let go of two 203,000 dwt, Bohai-built big bulkers, the Newmax and the Cape Kallia, for $38m each. Both ships hit the water in 2012. Newmax is now renamed Rosebank and has been sold to Pioneer Bulk, while the taker of Cape Kallia is still to be revealed.

Newcastlemaxes have been changing hands this year in record volumes at hugely elevated prices.

Splash data showed February marked a monthly record for newcastlemax sales. In total, 10 oversized capes were sold, according to VesselsValue.

Newcastlemaxes have a maximum beam of 50 m, and a maximum length overall of 300 m and refer to the largest vessel able to enter the port of Newcastle in Australia.
