Avin International replaces ageing product tanker with Asahi acquisition

Greek owner Avin International has replaced an ageing product tanker with a much newer version, according to brokers.

Avin has acquired the 2008-built MR2 Ariake Maru from Japan’s Asahi Tanker according to brokers, forking out $13.6m in the process. Online portal VesselsValue, which puts the vessel’s value at around $14.07m, shows that Avin has offloaded a much older product tanker in the last few weeks with the sale of 1999-built Vera Cruz for $6.2m to Middle Eastern interests.

Avin currently has a fleet of 36 vessels, made up of two panamax bulkers and 34 tankers of various sizes.

For Asahi, the sale is the second this year having also offloaded 2003-built small chemical tanker Sunny Poseidon to Indonesian buyers.
