Diana Containerships adds two Yang Ming chartered panamaxes

Athens: New York-listed Diana Containerships said that yesterday it signed agreements to purchase two panamax 4,920-teu containerships, the YM Los Angeles and the YM New Jersey.

Diana is paying $21.5m each for the two 65,123 dwt vessels, which were built in 2006 at Japan’s Koyo Dockyard (now Hiroshima Shipyard). Delivery is scheduled during April, with YM Los Angeles expected on April 9 and the YM New Jersey on April 15.

The two vessels are on charter to Taiwan’s Yang Ming at a gross charter rate of $21,000 per day. YM Los Angeles is contracted until between October 19, 2016 and February 19, 2017 while YM New Jersey until between September 24, 2016 and January 24, 2017. Each has an option attached for a further 22 to 26 month period at the same rate, which must be declared six months prior to the option commencement dates.

Diana Containerships, who currently operate a fleet of eleven vessels, said the closing of the transaction is subject to the signing of a novation agreement to the time charter contract of each vessel.
