Canadian silver heist has Montreal police baffled

Police in Montreal have tracked down a missing container from one of the most audacious heists in Canadian history; the C$10m ($7.53m) silver that was inside the box however has not been found.

On Wednesday afternoon a Maersk teu was loaded onto a white 1997 Freightliner truck at the port. The truck left the port – and it was only afterwards that authorities began to piece the audaciousness of the crime.

The truck had been stolen that morning and it had somehow been cleared to enter the port and managed to time its arrival along side the ship to get the key container carrying tons of silver, evading port security. Montreal’s port boasts some 350 cameras.

The container was found on Saturday morning. Montreal police are asking anyone with information that could help the investigation to call Info-Crime at 514-393-1133.
