Gram car carrier runs aground in Washington State
A car carrier run aground Saturday afternoon on the Washington side of the Columbia River, while heading from Tacoma to Portland.
The vessel was the 2012-built Viking Emerald, owned by Norway’s Gram Car Carriers and managed by OSM Ship Management in Singapore. It has a 4200 car carrying capacity.
The ship had a technical issue cause a loss of steering, at around 4:15pm on Saturday while headed upriver and ran aground around 4:30pm near Woodland.
There were no injuries or pollution reported and tugs have been sent to tow the vessel to Longview for inspection.
