Atlantska Plovidba signs for ultramax newbuilds in China

Croatian bulker owner and operator Atlantska Plovidba has returned to Jiangsu Hantong Ship Heavy Industry in China with an order for two ultramaxes.

The Zagreb-listed outfit, majority owned by Zadar-based peer Tankerska Plovidba, is paying around $65m for the 63,500 dwt duo designed to meet IMO Tier III and EEDI Phase 3 requirements.

Atlantska, which currently manages a fleet of 11 bulkers, will see its first ultramax newbuilds delivered in 2026.

The company also ordered four kamsarmaxes at Jiangsu Hantong for about $34.3m each in 2021. Two ships have already been delivered, of which one was flipped in a $37.6m resale deal, while the second one, AP Dubrovnik (pictured), remains in the Atlantska fleet under a 10-year arrangement with a Chinese lessor.

Mario Pavic-led diversified owner Tankerska Plovidba owns about 64% of the Dubrovnik-headquartered dry bulk player.
