Benita heads for scrap

The bulk carrier Benita is being towed from Mauritius to Alang in India for scrapping. The ship which grounded off the Indian Ocean archipelago on June 17 following a fight between crewmembers was finally refloated earlier this week by Five Oceans Salvage.

Tug Ionian Sea FOS with salvage crew onboard remains connected to the bulk carrier and is currently towing at slow speed towards the Indian continent while the tow-worthiness of the vessel is being assessed.

The London P&I Club is expected to pick up a sizeable bill from the incident.
