Castor Maritime pockets $3.5m profit from kamsarmax sale

Cyprus-based bulker and boxship owner Castor Maritime has locked in profit from the sale of the 2010-built kamsarmax picked up nearly three years ago.

The Nasdaq-listed outfit controlled by Petros Panagiotidis has offloaded the 83,400 dwt Magic Venus for $17.5m, after buying it for $15.85m in January 2021.

Castor said the deal should see the vessel delivered to an unnamed new owner by the end of the first quarter and generate a net gain of about $3.5m, excluding transaction-related costs.

The company has also recently wrapped up the sale of the 2009-built kamsarmax Magic Argo, banking about $3m in the process.

In December last year, Castor also confirmed its exit from the capesize segment after offloading the 2006-built Magic Orion for $17.4m.

The company currently has 17 ships, but this number should come down to 14 once all transactions have been completed.
