Chabahar port to launch direct shipping line

Tehran: Increased capacity for handling larger ships at Chabahar Port will soon lead to the re-activation of a regular direct shipping line between Chabahar and major world ports, the Iranian president’s adviser on free zones affairs has said.

The upgrade of shipping service will soon allow ships of over 1,500 teu to sail.

The region’s goods transit and economic development will be greatly improved after the direct shipping line is launched, the adviser said.

The Port of Chabahar is a seaport in Chah Bahar, southeastern Iran. It is the only Iranian port with direct access to the ocean.

Chabahar has been officially approved to be a free trade and industrial zone by Iran’s government. In September, it was confirmed that India's Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust and Kandla Port Trust would work together to develop the port. [30/12/14]
