China’s Newnew adds two more ships

Newnew Shipping, a Chinese liner primarily serving the Russian market, has bolstered its fleet.

According to Alphaliner, Newnew, part of Chinese logistics group Torgmull, has bought the 2007-built, 4,363 teu TS Kelang for $20.8m as well as the 2007-built, 3,700 teu Northern Defender for $17m.

The ships will join Newnew’s China-Baltic service that calls at St Petersburg.

Alphaliner lists Newnew as the world’s 46th largest carrier with 11 ships in its fleet.

In the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a number of Chinese carriers emerged to fill the gap in the market as most large global liners quit the Russian sector.
