CMA CGM bids to take over France’s top rolling news channel

Rodolphe Saadé has moved to buy France’s top rolling news channel as the cash-rich liner executive bolsters his media empire.

CMA CGM announced on Friday a EUR1.55bn ($1.69bn) deal to acquire Altice Media, France’s third largest private sector media group, which runs BFM TV as well as the radio station RMC.

Saadé already controls four newspapers as well as a host of digital platforms.

“Together, at any time, in any place and on any device, we can be the voice,” he said on Friday.

The deal for Altice Media, which still requires regulatory approval, is a joint bid with CMA CGM holding an 80% stake and Merit France, Saadé’s holding company, having a 20% shareholding.
