Cosco Shipyard to build three boxships

Cosco (Guangdong) Shipyard has won contracts to built three small containerships for an unnamed European shipping company. The contract price was not disclosed.

The three 1,750-teu vessels will be delivered in the second and third quarters 2019, according to an exchange filing from Cosco Corp (Singapore), which owns a 51% stake in the Guangdong shipyard.

Excluding this order, the global orderbook for handysize containerships (1,250 to 1,999 teu) currently stands at 74 vessels, equivalent to around 10% of the 748 vessels currently on the water, according to data from VesselsValue.com.
