Danish flag enjoys banner growth in 2018

The Danish International Ship Register (DIS) grew by a quarter in 2018, marking it out as the fastest growing flag in the world in terms of percentage growth.

Among key names helping the register to record its best ever year were Maersk, Nordic Tankers and Navigare Capital. A total of 67 ships – accounting for 4.2m gt -were entered into the Danish flag in 2018, pushing the flag’s gross tonnage up by 25% year-on-year.

While Denmark showed the greatest percentage improvement, it was Hong Kong and Liberia who tallied the largest gross tonnage improvement in the previous 12 months, adding 12m gt  and 10.1m gt respectively.
