Diana Shipping finds work for ultramax with Western Bulk Carriers

Greek bulker owner Diana Shipping has entered into a time charter contract with Western Bulk Carriers, for one of its ultramax dry bulk vessels.

Diana Shipping said that the vessel in question was the DSI Altair. The gross charter rate is $13,800 per day, minus a 5% commission paid to third parties, for a period until a minimum of August 10, 2024, up to a maximum of October 10, 2024.

The charter for the 2016- built 60,309 dwt ultramax dry bulker is expected to commence on June 25, 2023.

According to the Semiramis Paliou-led company, the employment of the DSI Altair is anticipated to generate around $5.6m of gross revenue for the minimum scheduled period of the time charter.

In recent months, Diana Shipping was able to find work for several of its vessels. In April, the company won charters for DSI Drammen and Electra vessels. The following month it secured deals for Santa Barbara and Phaidra. Earlier this month it inked a charter for the capesize New York.

Diana Shipping’s fleet currently consists of 42 dry bulkers – four newcastlemax, 10 capesize, five post-panamax, six kamsarmax, seven panamax, and 10 ultramax vessels. The combined carrying capacity of the company’s fleet is approximately 4.7m dwt with a weighted average age of 10.17 years.
