Dolphin Drilling lining up semisub for UK work

Semisub rig owner Dolphin Drilling has potentially lined up a 500-day drilling campaign offshore the UK for its 1974-built Blackford Dolphin.

The Øystein Stray Spetalen-backed company has penned a letter of intent with an unnamed operator for a drilling campaign expected to start directly after the fixture with EnQuest.

The contract with an undisclosed value includes an upfront cash payment and a fixed dayrate, Dolphin said.

The latest deal would see the rig fixed throughout 2025 and 2026, plus further options with schedule flexibility.

Dolphin recently terminated a contract for the same rig with Peak Petroleum in Nigeria after alleged continued breaches of the agreement between the companies. Peak has filed a formal notice of legal action against this move.
