Donsötank orders two chemical tankers from Wuhu Shipyard

Sweden-based Donsötank has ordered two new dual-fuel 22,500 dwt oil and chemical tankers from Chinese shipbuilder Wuhu Shipyard.

Donsötank said via its social media channels that the construction and equipment of these vessels would follow the same blueprints as its previous vessels Prospero and Pacifico – also built by Wuhu Shipyard and delivered to the Swedish company in 2021.

The two newly ordered newbuilds will be delivered to Donsötank in the second and fourth quarters of 2025.

The new chemical tankers will be 167 meters long, 26.5 meters wide, and have a cargo capacity of 27,800 cubic meters.

According to the company, the LNG-LBG/diesel dual-fuel propulsion, 500kWh battery pack, shore power connection, SCR-catamiser, and a waste heat recovery system will enable cleaner and more efficient operations.

Another feature on the vessels will be a special coating of the cargo tanks which will allow the company to safely load a wide range of emerging cargoes including bioproducts, biofuels, animal fats, and other upcoming commodities in the industry.

“As we navigate the path towards the future of shipping, our commitment to adapt our fleet remains resolute. It is not only about meeting regulations but also about actively contributing to the advancement of the industry and shaping the future of shipping,” the company stated.

Wuhu Shipyard found itself in the headlines a few times recently. In April, EGPN ordered four firm plus four optional 18,500 dwt chemical tankers from the shipbuilder.

The other reason was far from positive though. Namely, three people were killed at the shipyard earlier this month after heavy winds toppled a crane.
