Employers and union at Port of Halifax reach tentative agreement

Locals of the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) and the Halifax Employers Association (HEA) reached a tentative agreement on April 12 for renewal of their collective agreement. Pending ratification, the new agreement is for a four-year term and will run until December 31, 2025.

Union members have been working without a collective agreement since December 31, 2021.

The HEA represents shipping lines, agents and terminal operators at the Port of Halifax. The Council of ILA Locals for the Port of Halifax represents the Halifax Longshoremen’s Association, Local 269 ILA; Halifax Freight and Steamship Union, Local 1341 ILA; and Halifax Gear Repair and Maintenance Men, Local 1825 ILA.
