Equinor and BP’s US offshore wind project presses ahead

Empire Offshore Wind, a joint venture between Equinor and BP, has secured approval for its offshore wind farm project on the US East Coast.

The project is the sixth commercial-scale wind farm to be given a go-ahead under President Joe Biden’s administration.

Equinor and BP plan to build two offshore wind farms the Empire Wind 1 and 2 with a total installed capacity of more than 2 GW.

Once constructed, most likely in 2026 and 2027, the two wind farms will be capable of delivering renewable power to more than 700,000 New York homes each year.
