Fredriksen signs for newcastlemax newbuilds

John Fredriksen’s family holding company, Seatankers Management, has come back to Qingdao Yangfan yard in China with a newbuilding deal in the largest bulk carrier segment.

Shipbuilding sources report the Cyprus-based outfit signing up for four 210,000 dwt newcastlemaxes at about $68m each for delivery in 2027 and 2028.

Seatankers’ ordering spree kicked off this year with up to eight conventionally fuelled VLCCs at Dalian Shipbuilding Industry Co (DSIC) delivering in the next two to three years.

The latest order, which is the company’s first for newcastlemaxes since February 2018, adds to a series of kamsarmax bulkers Fredriksen booked at Qingdao Yangfan.
