Global Ship Lease secures new charter agreement with OOCL

UK-based containership charter owner Global Ship Lease (GSL) has secured a new charter agreement for 2003-built, 2,207 teu GSL Keta.

The vessel will be chartered to OOCL for minimum 50 days to a maximum 90 days, from late July at a fixed rate of $8,700 per day. It was previously on charter to ANL at $8,450 per day.

“We are pleased to have signed this charter at an improved rate with a top-tier counterparty in OOCL. With strong fundamentals driving continuing improvements across the ship sizes that make up our fleet of high-quality, mid-sized and smaller containerships, Global Ship Lease is in an excellent position to realize additional benefits for our shareholders,” said Ian Webber, CEO of GSL.

Last month, GSL secured charters for two of its vessels, one with Maersk and one with MSC.

GSL owns a fleet of 41 containerships ranging from 2,207 to 11,040 teu, with a total capacity of 224,162 teu.
