Grindrod sells handy bulker as it strikes charter and purchase option deals

Singapore-based bulker owner Grindrod Shipping has announced a sale of another bulk carrier as well as several charter deals.

The Ed Buttery-led company sold the 2007-built handysize bulk carrier IVS Kingbird for $10.4m which, according to Grindrod is a 1.5% premium to carrying value. Delivery of the 32,600-dwt vessel to the new owners is expected on or before February 29, 2024. This vessel is unencumbered.

The company also revealed several charter deals. Namely, it chartered in two ultramax bulkers for a minimum of one year. They are expected to deliver in the first and second quarters of 2024. Grindrod also extended the firm charter-in period of the 2014-built supramax IVS Crimson Creek by approximately 12 months.

The Singapore firm added that it also recently exercised a purchase option on the 2014-built supramax IVS Naruo for around $12m. The ship owned by Sun Ocean Corporation is set to deliver by the end of June.

The sale of the IVS Kingbird comes after the company confirmed the sale of the IVS Hayakita and IVS Bosch Hoek ultramaxes for a total of $46.5m. The company also sold the 2013-built IVS Raffles and the IVS Merlion for $11.6m each with the latter already delivered to its new owners.
