Hafnia and Mercuria form panamax pool

BW Group’s product tanker giant Hafnia, and commodity trader Mercuria have revealed a new panamax venture called Hafnia Panamax Pool.

The duo will initially operate 10 ships with an average age of 13 years from their offices in the US, Europe and the Far East.

The partnership is expected to launch in March aiming to bridge the gap across a rapidly aging segment.

“As charterers ourselves, we have noticed a deficit of modern tonnage in this segment, and we are delighted to team up with industry-leading tanker owner and pool operator Hafnia in our efforts to service this need,” said Larry Johnson, global head of freight and shipping at Mercuria.

“With this venture, we look forward to leveraging our combined expertise, and are confident that customers and partners will see immediate and obvious advantages,” added Søren Skibdal Winther, vice president, commercial at Hafnia.

Last August, Mercuria also joined forces with Emanuele Lauro’s Scorpio Commercial Management in establishing Mercury Pool for aframax tankers.
