Hanwha Ocean wins Qatari LNG carrier orders

Qatar Energy’s fleet expansion scheme proceeds apace with a contract signed this week for 12 LNG carriers with Hanwha Ocean, the Korean yard formerly known as Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering. Prices and delivery schedules have yet to be revealed.

Last month, another Korean major yard, Samsung Heavy Industries, won an order from Qatar Energy for 15 gas carriers worth $3.44bn, while in October last year HD Hyundai Heavy Industries confirmed a record-breaking $3.9bn deal to build 17 LNG carriers for the same owner.

Qatar Energy’s gas fleet expansion is also taking it to China for a round of orders.
