Helix bags contract extensions in Brazil and US Gulf

Houston-based offshore contractor Helix Energy Solutions has landed contract extensions in Brazil and in the US Gulf of Mexico.

The first deal is a 12-month extension of its decommissioning contract with Trident Energy in Brazil. The campaign is set to start in the fourth quarter of 2024 at rates in line with the improved well intervention market, the New York-listed company said.

The original contract started in late 2022 in the Campos Basin and utilizes the Siem Helix 1 riser-based well intervention vessel and a 10,000 intervention riser system. Helix is providing fully integrated plug and abandonment well services through its partner SLB, as well as project management and engineering services.

The second deal involves an affiliate of Talos Energy and the 1986-built floating production unit Helix Producer I. The FPU contract has been extended by one year, to June 1, 2025. The unit has been located at Green Canyon Block 237 since 2016, producing oil and gas through the existing Phoenix field subsea infrastructure.
