Ignitis and CIP claim Estonian offshore wind prize

Ignitis Renewables and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (CIP) have won the auction to develop an offshore wind farm in the Liivi 2 sea area in Estonia with a total capacity of up to 1.4 GW.

The partners placed the highest bid in the amount of €1.72m ($1.85m), Ignitis said.

Estonia’s Consumer Protection and Technical Regulatory Authority, which organised the tender, is expected to officially confirm the winner within three working days after the results of the tender are announced.

The maritime area for the offshore wind farm is located northwest of Ruhnu Island, near Estonia’s Baltic Sea coast, covering approximately 115 sq km. Subject to obtaining the relevant permits, contracting suppliers and securing financing, the project is expected to become operational after 2030.

This is the second offshore wind tender secured by Ignitis. The group partnered with CIP on offshore wind opportunities in Estonia and Latvia in August.
