Iran plans ports upgrade

Dubai: Iran’s maritime renaissance continues with news authorities are looking to bolster port throughputs throughout the nation.

As it stands the nation’s ports can handle a combined 185m tons a year. Under plans revealed this week the aim is to increase the nation’s ports’ combined annual throughput to 210m tons.

This year Iran’s ports are set to handle around 140m tons.

Iranian authorities are planning much maritime infrastructure buildup as sanctions ease. This sees investment in new ships and a significant upgrading of the nation’s shipyards.  [10/12/14]
