Chengxi Shipyard seals orders for 11 ships

Chengxi Shipyard in China has sealed new orders for a total of 11 ships spread between Japan’s Kumiai Senpaku and CITIC Financial Leasing, a subsidiary of China’s CITIC Bank.

The deals cover ten 84,500 dwt multipurpose ships and one 17,600 dwt asphalt carrier. Delivery dates and financial details have not been disclosed, but the state-owned shipyard said the multipurpose carriers will be built for CITIC.

The MPV units will be fit to carry pulp, containers, new energy vehicles, and other goods, the shipyard said, adding that the newbuilds will meet the International Maritime Organization’s Energy Efficiency Design Index (EEDI) Phase 3 specifications.

The 160-m-long asphalt carrier has been designed with three independent liquid cargo tanks with four cargo holds each, which can meet the requirements of most asphalt cargo terminals. After delivery, it will be put into operation on routes from the Middle East to Asia and Africa.
