New CEO for Vantage Drilling

Vantage Drilling has appointed Egyptian national Ihab Toma as its next ceo, starting August 29. Toma’s 30-year background in oil and gas includes stints with private equity, Transocean and Schlumberger.

Toma commented, “I am honoured to join Vantage as CEO and, while these are challenging times in our industry, I believe Vantage is an excellent platform from which to build a strong future. We have outstanding drilling assets and a management team that has demonstrated success in the most challenging operating conditions.”

Vantage has three ultra-deepwater drillships as well as four jackup drilling rigs.

Sam Chambers

Starting out with the Informa Group in 2000 in Hong Kong, Sam Chambers became editor of Maritime Asia magazine as well as East Asia Editor for the world’s oldest newspaper, Lloyd’s List. In 2005 he pursued a freelance career and wrote for a variety of titles including taking on the role of Asia Editor at Seatrade magazine and China correspondent for Supply Chain Asia. His work has also appeared in The Economist, The New York Times, The Sunday Times and The International Herald Tribune.
