Nisshin Shipping adds nine ultramax bulkers at Nantong Xiangyu

Japanese owner Nisshin Shipping has placed an order at China’s Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering for the construction of up to nine 63,500 dwt bulk carriers.

The contract includes firm orders for six vessels and options for an additional three vessels, and follows an order placed by Nisshin in January for 10 ultramaxes at the same yard.

Nisshin Shipping has been expanding its fleet significantly. According to VesselsValue, the company currently has over 50 newbuildings under construction at Japanese and Chinese yards. The Japanese line has also offloaded much of its older ships over the past two years.
