NYK seals crew transfer vessel charter with Siemens Gamesa

Japan’s Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK) has sealed a crew transfer vessel (CTV) time charter contract with wind turbine maker Siemens Gamesa.

The vessel will transport workers to the offshore wind farm at Ishikari Bay New Port, which is scheduled to begin commercial operation in December 2023.

The project is being developed by Green Power Ishikari which plans to build, operate, and maintain 14 offshore wind turbines manufactured by Siemens Gamesa.

The CTV will be owned by NYK and managed by Hokkaido-based Hokuyo Kaiun, an NYK Group company.

“This will be the first CTV operation inside Japan by the NYK Group, and we aim to use this as a foothold for further expansion into the offshore wind power generation business, which is expected to grow in the future,” NYK said in a release.
