Greek owner Oceangold Tankers has placed an order at South Korea’s STX Offshore & Shipbuilding for the construction of two 50,000 dwt MR2 tankers.
According to broking sources, the price of each vessel is about $30.57m. Delivery of the vessels is scheduled in 2019.
Last month, STX Offshore won its first order since 2015 from domestic owner Woolim Shipping and Sambong Corporation for four tankers. The shipyard said it had obtained refund guarantees from Korea Development Bank and will resume shipbuilding marketing operations, reinventing itself as a niche builder of mid-sized vessels, particularly tankers.
This latest order has increased STX’s orderbook to 16 vessels.
