Germany’s largest bulk shipping firm, Oldendorff Carriers is stopping its dealings in Guyana because the Russian company with which it has business in the South American country is subject to US sanctions, according to Reuters.
The Russian aluminium producer Rusal has a bauxite plant in Guyana from which Oldendorff ships the product to destinations in the US and Europe.
On April 6 the US imposed sanctions on various Russian entities, including Rusal, as punishment for Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2016 US presidential election.
In a statement Oldendorff said it would “fully comply with US sanctions”.
