Pleiades Shipping takes two at Hyundai Mipo

After a dreadful 2016 South Korean yards have won more orders in the first 10 days of 2017 than it did in the whole of the first quarter last year. The latest order comes from Greece with Pleiades Shipping reported by brokers as in for two firm plus two option 50,000 dwt product tankers at Hyundai Mipo Dockyard. The ships due for delivery in 2018 are costing $33.5m each.

Pleiades has a crude tanker fleet of eight panamaxes and two aframaxes as well as two product tankers. Historically it has chosen to build most of its ships in Japan.

Earlier this week Splash reported Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, another Korean yard, has secured an order for one 50,000 dwt MR product tanker from compatriot firm Sangji Shipping, due for delivery in 2018.
