Ramboll to assist with Adriatic Sea renewable energy hub development

Italian development company Agnes has appointed Denmark’s Ramboll to deliver advisory and technical support for the Agnes Romagna Energy Hub located in the Adriatic Sea.

Ramboll’s scope of work spans across various disciplines, including concept design during the initial phase. Additionally, the company will provide strategic advisory services, estimating capital expenditures and operational expenditures (OPEX).

Romagna 1 will be built 22 km off the coast of Lido di Classe, in an area of 85 sq km with 25 8 MW wind turbines set to be installed. The floating photovoltaic system with a power of 100 MWp would be installed next to the wind farm. As for Romagna 2, it will have a capacity of 400MW with up to 50 8 MW turbines installed some 26 km off Porto Corsini.

Aside from floating solar, the energy hub will also integrate a power-to-hydrogen plant as well as battery storage. Both projects are in Ravenna in the Emilia Romagna region and are currently in the authorization phase.

“It is great to be part of such an innovative project in the Mediterranean Sea combining offshore wind and solar energy with a power-to-hydrogen plant and battery storage. Our team of local wind experts is thrilled to [contribute] to Italy’s way to a more sustainable energy supply,” said Lorena Tremps, head of wind advisory for the Mediterranean at Ramboll.
