Maritime CEO

Scorpio: Emanuele Lauro stars on the cover of Maritime CEO magazine

Singapore: With Posidonia set to launch in 10 days in Athens Maritime CEO has launched a survival guide to the world’s most famous show.
The latest issue of Maritime CEO magazine goes online today, timed to coincide with Posidonia just as Greek owners are on a ship buying charge.
Inside the magazine readers can read about the mindset of Greek owners, how brokers view Posidonia, what to expect from the show, where to travel beyond Athens as well as a brand new wine column which focuses this issue on Greek vineyards. There’s plenty more besides in this record breaking issue of Maritime CEO including a cover story with arguably the world’s most talked about shipowner, Emanuele Lauro, the 35-year-old chairman of Scorpio Group.“The nature of the shipping business has changed,” Lauro tells Maritime CEO. “Today, it is more of an institutionalised business.” Lauro is proud that Scorpio has been leading that change from being a private family owner to then becoming an operator to today where Scorpio is, in Lauro’s words, “a true public company”.
Scorpio appears to be ahead of the pack in realising this changed cycle dynamic with its listed subsidiaries operating like asset holdings or trading companies.
With so many regulations coming to the industry, Lauro reckons it is much harder these days to have just two or three vessels and be a player in the market.
Scorpio places very high up in Maritime CEO’s inaugural Rich List. The magazine has teamed up with UK ship pricing system VesselsValue.com to produce a list of the top 50 shipowners by vessels owned. Scorpio has more ships on order than anyone else, indeed twice as much as its nearest rival, the Fredriksen Group.
Maritime CEO editor Sam Chambers commented: “Posidonia is the world’s most famous shipping show, gathering more owners than any other event. Maritime CEO, whose readership is 92% c-suite shipowners, has created a very special Posidonia-themed issue which we are confident will be one of the talking points of the show.”
Maritime CEO is one of two Asia Shipping Media (ASM) titles, which will be officially distributed at Posdionia. The other ASM title, which is due for distribution in Athens, is our Chinese dual language quarterly, SinoShip, which has Gerry Wang, the head of Seaspan on its cover.
