Geneva Dry Dialogues: Propel Marine

Established in 2018 and headquartered in Western Australia, Propel Marine has built a strong name for itself as a go-to in Asia-Pacific for marine surveying, project cargo management, marine warranty surveys, inspection, and audit with operations now spanning major Australian ports, extending across the Tasman Sea to New Zealand, and reaching key global maritime centres in India, Singapore, and China. Keen to extend the brand reach further the company has signed on as a Gold Sponsor for next month’s Geneva Dry.

“The inaugural Geneva Dry bulk forum represents a pivotal initiative, bridging the gap between key industry decision-makers, vessel managers, major charterers, and solution providers,” says Munaf Shaikh, chief operating officer of Propel Marine. “United by a common vision of industry prosperity and a greener future, this forum symbolises a collective stride towards sustainable maritime operations.”

The marine surveying, inspection, and audit industry is in a state of constant evolution, driven by increasingly stringent demands and significant technology strides, not least thanks to the years of the covid pandemic.

The challenges of the covid era underscored the limitations of traditional operational models, particularly when physical presence on vessels became challenging leading to the rise of remote inspections.

Propel Marine has been at the forefront of addressing this technological shortfall, developing trademark vessel vetting solutions, inspections, and surveys that leverage technology to offer survey solutions.

“These ideas not only mitigate crew fatigue during port stays but also enhance the value of physical inspections by focusing on critical aspects in a practical setting,” explains Shaikh.

A session that Shaikh is particularly looking forward to at Geneva Dry is the decarbonisation panel on May 3 chaired by Mette Asmussen from the World Economic Forum.

While numerous experts have developed frameworks for compliance with international environmental regulations, there is a need to bridge the implementation gap onboard vessels, Shaikh argues.

Propel Marine’s EGCS audits and engine enhance checks offer practical evaluations of onboard systems, assessing their efficiency, safety, viability, and cost-effectiveness, something Shaikh is keen to promote to the hundreds of owners and charterers coming to Switzerland next month for the first edition of what is being billed as the world’s premier commodity shipping event.

Taking place on May 2 and 3 at the President Wilson Hotel on the shore of Lake Geneva, Geneva Dry now boasts an extraordinary mix of shipowners, trading companies, miners and tech providers, with more than 400 delegates already registered.

Geneva Dry brings together all elements of the commodities shipping sector. Sessions include minor bulks, agri-commodities, coal, iron ore, as well as an entire afternoon spent discussing digital.
