Seadrill bags $100m in deals for drillship pair

Offshore rig operator Seadrill has won a pair of contracts worth around $97.5m for two of its drillships.

Houston-based Talos awarded the West Vela a contract with an estimated duration of 150 days in the US Gulf of Mexico.

The contract is expected to begin in the third quarter of 2024 and represents a total contract value of around $73.5m, excluding managed pressure drilling services.

In November last year, the 2013-built drillship was booked by QuarterNorth Energy for work from June to August 2024, also in the US Gulf. The contract is expected to start after the rig completes its campaign with Beacon Offshore and transitions to Seadrill from the current manager Diamond Offshore.

The operator of the West Capella exercised a one-well option with the existing third-party manager Vantage, extending its operations off Indonesia by approximately two months. The name of the operator is undisclosed, and the extension is in direct continuation of the rig’s current program and represents a total contract value of around $24m.

Seadrill has been advised by Diamond Offshore, the current manager of the West Auriga, that the rig will be released in February 2024 due to changes in their client’s drilling sequence.

This will enable Seadrill to resume management of the rig in the first quarter of 2024 and accelerate preparation for its recently announced contract with Petrobras in Brazil beginning in the second half of 2024.
