Shandong Shipping orders 10 capes at Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding

Chinese state-run shipping major Shandong Shipping have entered into agreements with two financial leasing houses Bocomm Leasing and Shandong Huachen Financial Leasing and CSSC-affiliated Shanghai Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding on Thursday for the construction of ten 180,000 dwt capesize bulk carriers.

The vessels will be owned by Bocomm Leasing and Shandong Huachen Financial Leasing and chartered to Shandong Shipping under a financial leasing arrangement.

In the meantime, Shandong Shipping has fixed the 10 ships to German energy company RWE Group on long term charters. The deal is the largest shipping contract RWE Group has ever signed.

Shandong Shipping currently controls a fleet of 52 vessels with total capacity of 5.88m dwt, the third largest in China.
