Sinotrans bulker rocked by explosion off Cornwall, three crew airlifted with burns

Sinotrans-controlled post-panamax bulker Great Aspiration was rocked by an explosion on Wednesday afternoon off the coast of Cornwall.

The 2010-built vessel, owned and operated by China’s Sinotrans, was heading from Baltimore in the US to Falmouth when the explosion occurred.

Three crew members, all Chinese, were airlifted from the vessel and sent to hospital suffering from serious burns.

The vessel is currently at anchor off Falmouth while the damage is assessed and the incident investigated.
