Solvang signs for two more VLGCs

Norwegian gas shipowner Solvang has added to its orderbook at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries by exercising an option for the construction of two more 88,000 cu m LPG carriers.

In a regulatory filing last week, the holding company of the South Korean yard, HD Korea Shipbuilding & Offshore Engineering (HD KSOE), said the European owner had booked the VLGC duo for delivery in 2027.

Clarksons Research has placed Solvang behind the deal, worth around $215m, bringing the Stavanger-based owner’s series at the yard to five units.

VesselsValue data shows that in addition to the latest order and the three scrubbed-fitted VLGC newbuildings booked in July for about $106.6m each, Solvang’s owned fleet currently stands at 22 ships.
