Tankers International pool adds Kuwait Petroleum and TRF VLCCs

UK-based VLCC pool operator Tankers International is expanding with the addition of two ships from newcomer Kuwait Petroleum Corporation (KPC), while its existing partner Transportation Recovery Fund (TRF) has added another vessel.

The move, which will bring the total fleet size to 66, has seen one VLCC owned and operated by KPC’s unit Kuwait Oil Tanker Company (KOTC) enter the pool, with one more expected to join later this month.

“KPC’s vessels are a significant addition to our pool’s efficient, and diversified fleet, and reflect the ambitions of the pool,” said Charlie Grey (pictured), CEO of Tankers International. “Adding KPC to the pool provides our partners access to KPC’s cargo base, as well as adding another layer of data and insights into the oil markets in the region.”

Meanwhile, TRF has added the 2016-built Eco Seas to the specialist scrubber pool after previously committing its 2018-built TRF Horten.

TRF joined the Tankers International pool in June this year and the operator said the addition of its second vessel, will reduce the average age for the scrubber pool, enabling it to offer modern, higher-performing vessels to the industry.

“Since our first addition to the pool, we have been impressed with the team at Tankers International’s determination to deliver value. We have achieved strong financial returns in the near term, leading us to add another vessel to the pool,” remarked Michael Aasland, CEO of TRF Ship Management.
