TechnipFMC scores work on Woodside’s Trion project off Mexico

Offshore contracting giant TechnipFMC has been awarded a contract to manufacture flexible pipes by Woodside Energy.

TechnipFMC said that it would supply infield flowlines and jumpers for the Trion project in deepwater Mexico.

According to the company, this award was included in inbound orders in the third quarter of 2023.

“We worked with Woodside to formulate the best technical solution for this milestone project. This contract is our largest flexible pipe award in the Gulf of Mexico to date and builds upon the trust we have established with Woodside over many years of successful execution and delivery,” Jonathan Landes, president of subsea at TechnipFMC, said.

The Trion field is located in the Perdido Fold Belt, Gulf of Mexico, at a water depth of 2,500m approximately 180km off the Mexican coastline and 30km south of the US-Mexico maritime border.

It is a greenfield development that would represent the first oil production from Mexico’s deepwater, with the potential for future discoveries to be tied back to Trion facilities.

The Trion project was discovered by Mexico’s state-owned petroleum company Pemex and in 2017, BHP Petroleum and PEMEX signed an agreement for the development of the Trion discovery. Following the merger with BHP Petroleum, Woodside continued the agreement with Pemex for field development. First oil is targeted for 2028.
