Crew die from coal gas leak

Two Chinese crew onboard to bulk carrier Feng Hui Hai died on Sunday and another is in a critical condition at a hospital in India after inhaling toxic gas from a cargo of coal.

The ship had arrived at Jamnagar port yesterday carrying coal from Indonesia. One crewmember went into the hold on Sunday and was hit by coal gas with another two men sent in to help him.

Investigations into the accident are ongoing in India.

The 63,300 dwt Feng Hui Hai was just delivered to Cosco Shipping Bulk’s fleet by CSSC Huangpu Shipyard in June 2017.
