Florida-based Crowley Maritime Corp has earned a multi-year contract extension to deliver an increased quantity of containerized liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the US to the factories of a pharmaceutical company in Puerto Rico.
Crowley subsidiary Carib Energy will execute the deal, which extends a 2014 contract.
LNG is used in the boilers of the pharmaceutical firm’s manufacturing plants and the company is expanding its LNG use to additional plants, hence the increased volume.
Shipments will depart Crowley’s terminal in Jacksonville.
Pharmaceutical production is a major industry in Puerto Rico. It is a major employer responsible for a vast chunk of the island’s exports.
