Dae Sun wins chemical tanker order

South Korea’s Dae Sun Shipbuilding & Engineering has won an order to build a 3,500 dwt stainless steel chemical tanker from compatriot HNCC for delivery in the first half of 2018. No price has been revealed.

Unlike many other Korean yards, Dae Sun’s chemical tanker niche has seen it win many orders this year, principally from local owners who are looking at fleet rejuvenation programs. Dae Sun has won orders for four 3,500 dwt chemical tankers and two 6,500 dwt product tankers in the year to date.

This is HNCC’s second order at Dae Sun in 2016.

The yard also markets chemical tankers of up to 12,000 dwt in size.
