D’Amico buys MR product tanker for $43.5m

Italian owner d’Amico International Shipping has agreed to buy the 50,000 dwt MR product tanker Amfitrion for a consideration of $43.5m.

The acquisition was made by the Italian firm’s Irish subsidiary, d’Amico Tankers. The vessel was built in 2017 by Samsung Heavy Industries Ningbo in China. According to the Equasis database, the tanker is managed by Capital Maritime and Trading and is owned by a subsidiary of the Greek company.

Following the buy, d’Amico’s fleet comprises 34 double-hulled product tankers – MR, handysize and LR1 – 26 of which are owned, five are chartered-in, and three are under bareboat charter. The fleet has an average age of around 8.8 years for its owned and bareboat chartered-in vessels.

This newest addition to the fleet comes after the company sold its oldest vessel, the 47,162 dwt MR product tanker Glenda Melanie. The 2010-built vessel was sold for a cash consideration of $27.4m and is now replaced by the Amfitrion which is seven years younger.

“Built by a reputable shipyard in 2017, this vessel aligns perfectly with our company’s long-term strategy of owning and operating a fleet comprised of young and efficient product tanker vessels,” said Paolo d’Amico, chairman and CEO of d’Amico International Shipping.
