Nhat Viet buys first bulker

Nhat Viet Transportation Corp has added its first bulker. The cabotage specialist has in the past focused on the wet sector, having around 25 LPG carriers under its control. Some tankers are fully owned while most are under management. Now the outfit has added the vintage 26,500 dwt Vinalines Star and renamed it, Golden Sea. The ship is one of many bulkers Vinalines laid out for sale last year to cut costs.

Nhat Viet Transportation is a subsidiary PVTrans, which handles PetroVietnam cargoes, serving the Dung Quat Refinery and Vung Tau Gas Processing Company.

While bulkers has not been the focus for Nhat Viet, the local player has been shipping bulk commodities, via chartered in tonnage.
