30% of ports worldwide unprepared for incoming IMO maritime single window legislation

A new study suggests nearly a third of ports worldwide are unprepared to adopt the International Maritime Organization’s (IMO) maritime single window (MSW) mandate which becomes compulsory on January 1 next year.

As from the start of 2024 every port is now mandated to have a single window system for digital information exchange between stakeholders on arrival, stay and departure of vessels.

However, a survey by Kale Logistics Solutions involving 200 ports found 30% are not ready to meet impending electronic data exchange regulations

“The purpose of this study was to identify the tangible benefits the maritime industry can achieve with technology intervention, and the results showed potential savings of up to $50bn annually by using MSW platforms,” said Vineet Malhotra, co-founder of Kale Logistics Solutions.

  1. Dear Sam
This is a very interesting article and rightfully positioned.
The Indian PCS system has been developed by Portall Infosystems Pvt Ltd and is compliant to the IMO guidelines for January 2024. This compliance has been validated by EY and whatever little is left will be completed by December 2023.

I shall be happy to speak to you in greater details whenever possible.

    Regards

  2. anybody in IMO Safety Committee are thinking about the chaos they are bringing when this so calling “Single Window System” will be in force? Each country will establish their own System, with absolutely different pages/rows/columns/date formats/name-surname position and so on! so I’ll need to fill all of forms manually, as copy/paste is not working/allowed! Why IMO making privileges to ports, but not to the vessel’s staff? why not possible to create “Single Window” for the vessels, not to the ports? With limited sheets inside EXCEL file, highly protected against unauthorized changes, with only ONE FOR ALL format! Where the ship’s staff will insert ALL required information about related voyage and portcall! And each port at ANY country, will create their own software to extract from “SHIP’S SINGLE WINDOW” document an information, they are only require! Such document should be available for digital signature, to avoid duplication if all documents upon arrival to the port! Everybody in IMO, please hear us! You should ti work WITH us, but not AGAINST
