Zodiac linked to K Line VLCC transaction

Sources are dripping new information into last week’s sale of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha’s (K Line) oldest VLCC, the 2007-built Tamagawa, sold for just under $39m.

The deal is this year’s most expensive secondhand VLCC sale so far. Now shipbrokers are pointing at Eyal Ofer’s Zodiac Maritime as the taker of the ship. Zodiac’s exposure to the VLCC sector is limited, with only two VLCCs in its stable among 134 other ships.

Another tanker owner was first linked to the purchase, pure breed VLCC player Embiricos Epaminondas’s Aeolos Management who added four similar aged VLCCs last year.

The sale leaves K Line with seven VLCCs in its fleet.
