McDermott and Petrofac to surf in tandem

Houston: McDermott International and Petrofac Limited are joining forces in a five-year marketing alliance aimed at opening further offshore oil and gas opportunities, they announced on Thursday.

The key word is integration as the firms say their combined resources and expertise will offer clients across-the-board solutions for complex engineer, procure, construct and install (EPCI) projects in deep and ultra-deepwater.

Houston-based McDermott has a specialty fleet for subsea, umbilical, riser and flow line (SURF) projects. It is notable for its new Derrick Lay Vessel DLV 2000, a combination heavy lift and pipelay craft with 2,000-tonne crane.

Petrofac, with its operations centre in London, is a provider of oilfield services. It has, under construction in China, the JSD 6000, a customised DLV designed for ultra-deepwater pipelay, subsea lowering and above-surface construction work.

The allied companies plan to pursue top-tier SURF projects across the US Gulf of Mexico, Mexico, Brazil, the North Sea, Mediterranean and West Africa.
